Do you ever have a time when you're scared to sleep alone?
And I'm not talking about being afraid of the dark.
I'm talking about what sneaks up on you when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's a thick, suffocating presence that seeps its way like smoke from under your bed to the tips of your toes, to the top of your head.
And you can't breathe.
You can't think of anything else but the thing that has its slimy fingers around your throat.
The thing that makes you fear sleep.
In the twilight moment between sleep and awake, you're paralyzed, and it's in your mind, prickling everything in its wake, sloping down to your stomach and making it churn like thick, bubbling acid.
The only thing that will keep it away is to distract your mind. Stay awake. Don't sleep.
It will go away, right?
No.
It senses your fear of it.
It festers. It laughs.
And you just can't be alone.
And I'm not talking about being afraid of the dark.
I'm talking about what sneaks up on you when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's a thick, suffocating presence that seeps its way like smoke from under your bed to the tips of your toes, to the top of your head.
And you can't breathe.
You can't think of anything else but the thing that has its slimy fingers around your throat.
The thing that makes you fear sleep.
In the twilight moment between sleep and awake, you're paralyzed, and it's in your mind, prickling everything in its wake, sloping down to your stomach and making it churn like thick, bubbling acid.
The only thing that will keep it away is to distract your mind. Stay awake. Don't sleep.
It will go away, right?
No.
It senses your fear of it.
It festers. It laughs.
And you just can't be alone.

Hey everyone. I just want to thank you all for the thoughts and prayers that have been for me.
I landed a full-time desk job for the week days and a photography job on Saturdays.
I am losing my apartment since I could not make enough money in time to make the rent, but someone is taking over the lease for me and I am moving in with a good friend.
I am very thankful.
